Our House System
Overview
The purpose of the Cotham School house system is to develop a sense of community between tutor groups and year groups collectively across our school to contribute towards a positive school ethos. The house system creates competition, promotes good work and behaviour, encourages teamwork, provides opportunities to take on responsibilities and brings everyone together. Everyone in our school community is a member of a house and this is shown on individual ID cards. Each house also supports a charity throughout the year with their fundraising, which has been selected by the students.
The four houses are:

Work Hard, Be kind. |
Strength in truth, power in compassion. |
Dare to be Great. |
Driven to Make a Difference. |
Mottos and Heads of Houses
Each of the four houses have developed their own identity since the introduction in September 2015 and these are evolving with our students. Our four Heads of Houses are Sarah Nelson, Cydney Forbes, Mariam Ahmad and Darren Sebana. They work together to create a culture of pride, passion and enthusiasm for the House system (with some healthy competition too!).
House Points and Assemblies
Students are rewarded with house points for demonstrating great habits of learning. These contribute towards a range of trophies across subject areas which are celebrated and distributed during two whole school assemblies. The two assemblies are at the end of the term before Christmas and the end of the term before Summer. Individual students are also rewarded with prizes for their contribution to their house. We also have House assemblies three times a year where we come together as Houses to celebrate our successes.
Cotham School Student Leadership
The Student Leadership co-ordinator is Sarah Nelson.
The Student Council is made up of all 32 Student Leaders and the 16 Prefects. They work with Heads of Houses on school events, competitions and assemblies. They also all meet up every big term for a Student Council session where they take part in Student Voice and help work towards improving the school.
The Student Council is also split into four committees, which are:
Behaviour & Rewards Committee
Promotes positive behaviour through rewards, House Point competitions, celebrations and student feedback.
Belonging & Inclusion Committee
Develops a welcoming and inclusive school environment through peer mentoring, anti-bullying initiatives, wellbeing activities and diversity celebrations.
Curriculum & Learning Committee
Supports improvements to teaching and learning through student voice, peer tutoring, reading and writing support, and curriculum events.
Local & Global Community Committee
Strengthens links with local communities and charities through fundraising, volunteering, environmental projects and community initiatives.
